BabyZone’s Message Boards

Our new message boards have many new features that you can learn more about by reading our FAQ document. In this document we will step you through how to use your hosting rights on the new boards. Please make sure the first thing you do is go to your profile after logging in and add some details to your profile about yourself. You don’t have to fill out everything just what you are comfy with having other users see.

Upon selecting a users post from the left hand side if you use frames – or from the list of posts on the non-framed version you will see these buttons at the bottom of their posts

is to hide the posts from the users of the boards. This feature is helpful if you are really questioning something posted on your boards but you can’t get any input from one of the community managers or others hosts on the host list – you can hide their post until you get an answer on whether it’s appropriate. You can also choose to just hide all posts that you know are obvious spam/violations of the CUP. It’s up to you what you choose.

is used to move posts off your board and on to the Zone Hosts board or to another board if you have a post that really fits better on another board. For example moms groups for certain cities are usually best left on the regional boards. In this case you would click on move when you do you are going to see this

Welcome to BZ Hosting

 To This Board...
Boards:

To this board is the area in which you will go through the drop down and choose the board you want to move it to. If it’s something we need off all boards then move it to Zone Hosts (pw for Zone hosts is bz05hostsroc) after clicking move your post will disappear off the board it was originally on.

This is the button you will use to edit out any offensive or spam materials from a post that is otherwise ok to post ex: Sally writes “Hey everyone, the baby is growing so fast. Can you believe he’s now 20lbs! How are all your babies doing with eating solid foods. Sorry I haven’t been around lately. Hope to get caught up now that things are settled.. Oh btw I’m selling avon now so if anyone wants some check out www.avon.com/sally” In this example her post is fine except for her plug for Avon so you would remove the “Oh btw….” sentence and leave in the rest. Sometimes you’ll find the whole post is spam in which case you would either move or hide as talked about above. When you edit someone’s post we would like you to put something at the bottom of their post to the effect *Edited by host to remove advertisement or something to that effect.

Now at the top of the posts you will also see the Move option right now this is not working and is on techs list to fix. Once fixed it will work just like the move option on the bottom we’ve discussed.

Also at the top of the post you will see this button   this button is so that if a discussion gets out of hand you can lock the thread where members can still read it but they can’t reply to it anymore. This feature is especially helpful to the hot topics board hosts where it’s not uncommon to end up with a 100 replies to a post. That starts getting hard for the hosts to keep up on so they can lock it and of course the users can make another post about it and that’s fine. This can also be used in polls you still want users to be able to read but you don’t want anymore responses to them.

Another feature that you will have as a host is the sticky post feature. You will only see this when you are making a new post. You will see this below the new post type box

Attach Signature: 1
Attach File
Notify me when a reply is posted

Sticky Post

In order to make the post stay at the top of all listings of posts on your board after you have typed in your post click on the Sticky Post and then that’s it. Your post will then be stuck on top of any and all posts that are posted on your board. This feature is not to be used except for things like FAQ that we are trying to keep at the top of the boards. Important system information or if you are having a problem with spam or heated members you can make a sticky post quoting part of the CUP with a link to view the entire CUP. If there is anything else you come across you think may need to be “sticky” on your board please email Steph and JoJo first to clear it. (Please bare in mind that this feature is currently not functioning properly so you may not have this feature and if you do please don’t use it.)

As always if you have any questions on a post you aren’t sure about email cmsteph@babyzone.com, jojobz@babyzone.com or even the bzhosts@babyzone.com email list. The other hosts are always real helpful and ready to help answer any questions they can.
